Jr2 Receiver Guide

Basic Operation:

Turn the unit on and off by pressing the “Power” button for two seconds. The green light will blink momentarily to indicate proper startup.

The unit will test trigger by clicking the Power button.  The green light will strobe momentarily during triggering.

To save battery life, the green light is not normally turned on during operation, though the display will remain active, indicating the unit is powered on.

To adjust settings, enter the Menu mode by pressing and holding the “Menu” button for two seconds.  The display will begin blinking the item highlighted for editing.

Exit Menu Mode at any time by clicking the “Power” button, or you may continue clicking Menu until you have cycled through all settings.

The Jr2 Receiver can be set to one of 4 groups, allowing for maximum flexibility of your lighting setup.

Press and hold Menu for two seconds to enter Menu mode.  “GROUP” will begin flashing along with the group number presently assigned.  Click the “Select” button to cycle through groups.

By setting different lights to different groups, they may be adjusted separately.  All lights on a given group will be adjusted together.

The Jr2 Receiver can be set to one of 16 different radio channels.

Press and hold Menu for two seconds to enter Menu mode, then click the Menu button one extra time to index from GROUP set mode to CHAN set mode.  “CHAN” will begin flashing along with the radio channel number presently assigned.  Click the “Select” button to cycle through channels.

All your RadioPopper transmitter and receiver units must be set to the same radio channel to work together.

Remote / Local Levels:

You can toggle between “Local” and “Remote” level setting modes by pressing the “Select” button for one second. The green light will blink briefly when changing modes.

The Jr2 Receiver can remotely control the power level of your flashes and studio lights, but you can also set the power level directly on your flash or studio strobe and allow the Jr2 Receiver to trigger your light, but not adjust the power level of the light.  Even in “Local” mode, you can still enable and disable the light by toggling the group buttons of a Jr2 Transmitter.

Remote:  In “REMOTE” mode, the power level of your attached lighting device is controlled remotely from your transmitter.  The Jr2 Receiver will control the attached light so as to set it to the power level commanded by your transmitter.

Local:  In “LOCAL” mode, the power level of your attached lighting device is controlled directly on the lighting device (for example the display on the back of your flash or the slider on your studio light).

You can toggle between “Local” and “Remote” level setting modes by pressing the “Select” button for one second. The green light will blink briefly when changing modes.

When setting to the REMOTE mode, if you have a speedlight attached to the hotshoe connector of the Jr2 Receiver, the Jr2 Receiver will cause the Speedlight to emit a short low power flash of light.  This is a confirmation that the Jr2 Receiver is communicating with the attached speedlight and is now controlling the power level of the light.

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING NIKON SPEEDLIGHTS:  When the Jr2 Receiver takes control of some Nikon speedlights (when setting “Remote” mode), the speedlight may become non-responsive to controls on the speedlight.  For example, if you attempt to power off the flash or adjust the zoom of the flash, it may appear to be locked up and non responsive. This is normal.  To release the speedlight from this state and allow interaction, your may press the “Select” button on your Jr2 Receiver for one second to toggle into “Local” mode (See above).  This will immediately release control of your speedlight. You may also power off your Jr2 Receiver, which will also release control of your speedlight.  This unfortunately is required due to how the software is designed inside these flashes.  After making an adjustment on the flash (adjusting the zoom for example), just tap the Select button again to immediately resume Remote operation.
